Ljubljana to-do || crashing during the week(end)
| March 14th, 2019Are you attending BSidesLjubljana and as well spending a few days in Slovenia’s capital? We prepared a few suggestions what you could do, see, eat and drink :)
.: Sights :.
Ljubljana Old Town is a must-see to experience Ljubljana’s vibe, life and history. Start at the core of Ljubljana’s old center, Prešern Square and The Tripple Bridge. You will find a Tourist Information Center there and Ljubljana’s Central Market. Walk up and down Ljubljanica River and don’t forget to walk along little streets Mestni trg, Stari trg and Gornji trg.
We strongly recommend visiting Ljubljana Castle for amazing views over Ljubljana and surroundings. One way to walk up is from Gornji trg (15 min walk), or you can take the cable car from Krekov trg (4 € return ticket).
If you want an escape from city the life, visit Tivoli Park (10-minute walk from Prešern Square). On the way, you can visit Slovenian National or Modern Galley, Museum of Natural History, or International Centre of Graphic Arts if you are into culture. Stop for coffee up Nebotičnik/ Skyscraper and be stunned the view over Ljubljana castle and Ljubljana.
.: To eat & drink :.
If you want to try Ljubljana’s and Slovenia’s oldest beers, visit Union Pub. They offer a selection of more than 10 different draft beers and modern Slovenian cuisine. Might be smart to book a table. If that doesn’t work, Irish Pub Ljubljana is a great option with a great selection of beers and very cosy atmosphere.
For tasting some local cuisine, we recommend Julia Restaurant or Gostilna Sokol. If you love a good pizza, we absolutely recommend Pizzeria Trta – everything is fresh and delicious, you have a choice of non-gluten or full-grain dough and a big range od vegeterian pizzas. They also offer various delicious pasta dishes. If you crave for a burger, try Pop’s Place or Organic Garden (vegeterian and vegan friendly). All restaurant are very close-by each other, all in the Ljubljana Old Town. You will find a whole range of other restaurants, cafes and bars there.
.: Culture and evening time :.
If you like a good gig, you might find something for you in Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture, Orto bar, or cultural center Cankarjev dom. A definite phenomenon of Ljubljana is also Metelkova mesto, an alternative culture place that grew out of old army barracks being occupied by squatters to stop them from being torn down. It’s an alternative heaven where almost every wall is covered in graffiti and imaginative murals. Come for photos during the day, and return at night when it’s full of life.
