We did it! We managed to carry out the 5th edition of BSidesLjubljana and from so far (super positive) feedbacks it feels we made another great event and it was very successful.

Tickets, released in three batches, were literally gone in a few minutes! Poligon Creative Center was packed again: 230 BSidesLjubljana participants registered at the venue, out of 250 who got a ticket.

It seems information security communities and enthusiasts are starving for events like this, so it gives us acknowledgment we are on the right path. \o/

We are very grateful to everybody and want to say the biggest THANK YOU to:

  • All participants for creating a great and true unconference BSides-like vibe as well as all the hype on twitter (#BSidesLjubljana)!
  • Speakers for participating by sharing your expertise by giving talks and carrying out workshops. We are happy there were 10 lightning talks in the end – thank you for your contribution!
  • @Ministraitor for driving all the way to Ljubljana once again to video record all talks!
  • All the sponsors and strategic partners for covering most of the costs and making BSidesLjubljana FREE for all participants: Bitstamp, Viris, Akson, Pollpass, Zemanta, Xlab.
  • All community sponsors for taking care of working network/wireless: Aero IT, an extra hand with PR & Marketing: SecTalks, BSidesLiverpool, taking care of legal/financial activities: Lugos.
  • Poligon creative centre (@PoligonSI) for hosting us and making sure Club Mate was there for all the hackers.
  • Media sponsor Help Net Security.

For all of those who haven’t done that already, we’d like to ask everyone who was at the event for a few minutes of your time to answer some questions about your experience of the event and how you think we can make BSidesLjubljana even better in the future – there is always space for improvements. Your feedback will be very appreciated! Survey: https://goo.gl/forms/D8kIjdiQneSLzsB52

We open doors in like 10min!!!!

The Computer Museum will share with us one of the computers, a so-called »no-lan kišta™« (No-Lan Crate), which was built based on the legendary PS/1. It’s fitted with a broad array of games from the 80’s and 90’s. Playing and poking is highly recommended!

The Computer Museum in Ljubljana has been operating for more than 15 years and is one of the most advanced interactive museums of computer technology in the wider region. It systematically collects and documents important milestones from the history of Slovene’s digital society, which was often at the peak of global advancement. An extensive collection with more than 350 artifacts will be permanently installed in new premises on Celovška street 111 (at Kino Šiška).

Are you attending BSidesLjubljana and as well spending a few days in Slovenia’s capital? We prepared a few suggestions what you could do, see, eat and drink :)

.: Sights :.

Ljubljana Old Town is a must-see to experience Ljubljana’s vibe, life and history. Start at the core of Ljubljana’s old center, Prešern Square and The Tripple Bridge. You will find a Tourist Information Center there and Ljubljana’s Central Market. Walk up and down Ljubljanica River and don’t forget to walk along little streets Mestni trg, Stari trg and Gornji trg.

We strongly recommend visiting Ljubljana Castle for amazing views over Ljubljana and surroundings. One way to walk up is from Gornji trg (15 min walk), or you can take the cable car from Krekov trg (4 € return ticket).

If you want an escape from city the life, visit Tivoli Park (10-minute walk from Prešern Square). On the way, you can visit Slovenian National or Modern Galley, Museum of Natural History, or International Centre of Graphic Arts if you are into culture. Stop for coffee up Nebotičnik/ Skyscraper and be stunned the view over Ljubljana castle and Ljubljana.

.: To eat & drink :.

If you want to try Ljubljana’s and Slovenia’s oldest beers, visit Union Pub. They offer a selection of more than 10 different draft beers and modern Slovenian cuisine. Might be smart to book a table. If that doesn’t work, Irish Pub Ljubljana is a great option with a great selection of beers and very cosy atmosphere.

For tasting some local cuisine, we recommend Julia Restaurant or Gostilna Sokol. If you love a good pizza, we absolutely recommend Pizzeria Trta – everything is fresh and delicious, you have a choice of non-gluten or full-grain dough and a big range od vegeterian pizzas. They also offer various delicious pasta dishes. If you crave for a burger, try Pop’s Place or Organic Garden (vegeterian and vegan friendly). All restaurant are very close-by each other, all in the Ljubljana Old Town. You will find a whole range of other restaurants, cafes and bars there.

.: Culture and evening time :.

If you like a good gig, you might find something for you in Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture, Orto bar, or cultural center Cankarjev dom. A definite phenomenon of Ljubljana is also Metelkova mesto, an alternative culture place that grew out of old army barracks being occupied by squatters to stop them from being torn down. It’s an alternative heaven where almost every wall is covered in graffiti and imaginative murals. Come for photos during the day, and return at night when it’s full of life.
